This food store is dubbed the Harrods Food Hall of the North. It has very good wine selections, cheese and deli counter and many speciality foods. It’s like a food Souk!

Bettys Bakery, Northallerton

Marvellous baked breads and cakes and biscuits – speciality coffees and teas and chocolate. There is literally nothing will not want to buy – and, think delicious indulgent calories. Buy for yourself, for friends, for a small slice of Yorkshire to take home.

Berry’s Farm shop and cafe, Swinithwaite

There’s a lovely selection of Yorkshire sourced food in this great farm shop. Call in on the way back to your cottage to buy grass-fed steaks for evening meal. The tea room is a bonus!

Bedale Community Bakery, Bedale

Tucked away near the railway line in Bedale, this bakery has starred on the BBC’s Bread Actually. It’s a community run bakery with delicious daily offerings of fresh baked produce.

Based at the tourist attraction Big Sheep and Little Cow, it closes at 3.30pm Tuesday to Friday and 2pm Saturdays. So don’t leave it too late to shop here. It’s closed all day Mondays.

Make a stay out of it

Our Hayloft Cottage has a wood burner and a luxurious free-standing bath at the foot of the bed. If you’d like a hot tub, you may want to consider Tack Room Cottage. For cottages with two rooms rather than open plan, there are Groom’s Rooms Cottage and Head Lad Cottage.
