We are proud to offer the best Yorkshire romantic getaways for couples here at Dalesend Cottages.

Our story

We’re Charles and Emma and live at Patrick Brompton Hall, our family home for over 74 years.

The Hall is graced with a Grade II listed stable block in the grounds, once home for the family horses whilst stabling was needed. We began work in 2012 to transform it into our four luxury cottages called Hayloft, Tack Room, Groom’s Rooms and Head Lad cottage.

After 18 months of careful work and designs, the first guests of Dalesend Cottages arrived in February 2014.

A nod to our heritage

The name ‘Dalesend’ comes from the pedigree dairy herd created by the family. It is well-known both locally and internationally. One Dalesend herd cow has even been called “the best cow in the world”.

Patrick Brompton Hall

The Dalesend Cottages lie on the private estate of Patrick Brompton Hall. This Queen Anne historic house was built in 1703 with later additions to the rear.

Various families have occupied it over the centuries, including the local vicar. The most renowned owner was famous jockey Mr Billy Nevett. He rode over 2,000 race winners including the last northern trained and owned Derby winner, the legendary racehorse Dante.

The hall remains the family home for us and our three (now grown-up) children.

Interior design inspiration

There were many on the hoof changes, so to speak, while transforming the stable block. For example to keep the Hayloft’s airy feel, Emma designed its innovative demi-wall.

Our interiors follow the transitional style of mixing old and new, bought and repurposed. Sources include:

Emma uses finds from the attic, vintage furniture and pictures from various South of France brocante markets. These add to the charm of these special holiday cottages.

Emma’s childhood friend and interior designer Henrietta Holroyd was also an inspiration during the renovation and design of Dalesend Cottages as you see them today.
