A Betty's fondant fancy slice of paradise

Could Dalesend Cottages be a slice of paradise? We think we might be…

Move over ‘Bake-off’ – we’re now watching The Apprentice Series 11. We ADORE this BBC series – don’t you think Lord Sugar ‘cuts the mustard’ as saying goes? If you want to be active before the evening sofa surfing begins, here are some suggestions.

Thorp Perrow Arboretum, Bedale

slice of paradise at Thorp Perrow

This northern arboretum is a gem. Here you can find 100 acres of woodland walks (dog-friendly too) and we are lucky to be only 3 miles away. It is famous for its Autumnal leaf display, Meer Cats, a tearoom and daily activities like Meet the Owls. A Halloween trail is laid on and National Tree week celebrations are held. There is also a Santas grotto in December, for the ‘kid-at-heart’ amongst you. Look at www.thorpperrow.com for details.

The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle

Brilliant Bowes Museum slice of paradise

This museum is the V&A of the north. It houses an eclectic mix of furniture, ceramics, art, costumes and of course, the world-famous silver swan clock, displayed in action at 2pm every day the museum is open.

The café is rather good too. Barnard Castle itself has lovely quaint and modern shops. Step back a bit in time when you visit here. www.thebowesmuseum.org.uk

Bettys Tea Rooms and shop, Harrogate, York, Northallerton and Skipton

Although the activity of eating cakes and other delicious specialities is not active, it is good for the soul and you have to make some active effort to get to our closest tea rooms in Northallerton. We love fondant fancies and would walk the 11 miles to get some.

Durham Ripon or York Cathedrals

Ripon Cathedral slice of paradise

A visit merely to look in awe at how our ancestors could build these magnificent buildings and to explore their fascinating cities can make a rainy day seem a brilliant day.

Hot tub heaven

hot-tub-back-head slice of paradise

Finally, we think you will enjoy a long lovely soak in our new hot tub here at Dalesend Cottages. You are protected from the weather whilst you bathe and relax as our new hot tub is enclosed on 3 sides by the tubbing house. You can add a hot tub booking to a short break of 3 nights, or book for 3 or 6 nights if you are staying with us for a week. Make a hot tub heaven booking here
