Visit great gardens in Yorkshire

If you love visiting country houses with pretty gardens, you will love staying at Dalesend Cottages. Our own garden is available for you to relax and enjoy a drink watching country wildlife in the 25-acre park in front of the house.

Our closest gardens are Constable Burton Hall gardens, Leyburn and the display of tulips in the spring are a constant favourite for locals and visitors. We also love Thorp Perrow Arboretum and gardens where you can walk amongst a fine private collection of different trees and shrubs, enjoy the birds of prey and mammal centre  – yes meerkats. It is dog-friendly too.

We also recommend a visit to Newby Hall and gardens and further afield Castle Howard . These are grand and well-known Yorkshire houses and they offer much to see and do on a day out. The Himalayan Gardens near Ripon are something of a secret – but as locals we would like to recommend them as a place to visit. They have an extensive collection of rhododendrons and Himalayan plants, quite unusual to find in Yorkshire – and also a sculpture park. We think garden connoisseurs will love a visit here. (seasonal times. Months of April – June and Oct-Nov).

Further afield from us – the Walled Garden at Scampston Hall and Helmsley Walled Gardens are noteworthy and mesmerizing.
